There are several causes that can lead to belly fat. Stress due to belly fat is one of the causes for extra fat deposition and overweight. Stress not only causes belly fat, but it is also responsible for gaining weight. Treating belly fat is essential to stay away from the various side effects of belly fat.

The adrenals help to respond and control the different functions of the body's nervous system and the hormonal system. In nervous system, there is a part which remains in control and gets activated while you are relaxed. This is known as the parasympathetic nervous system. As discussed, the natural stress related hormone known as cortisol contributes in gaining weight and belly fat. During stress period, the high amount of cortisol is released into blood. The recipients of cortisol which are located in the abdomen area causes the excess storage of fat which then causes belly fat.

Experts have observed that women who have more waist to hip size ratio secreted more number of cortisol when they were under stress. These women were more under stress than women who have a low waist to hip size ratio. Excess levels of cortisol can slower the metabolism which then causes weight gain even if you do not consume more calories.

People possessing chronic stress are more tempted to eat food which contains salt, fat and sugar. These foods include crisps, chocolate and sweets. Usually, cravings for such type of foods happen when we are more stressed and weak. This tends to increase the fat deposits and gain weight.

Blood Sugar

When you are eating too much of sugar while you are stressed, your blood sugar levels can rise up and you will be subjected to prolonged stress. This results in fatigue, mood swings and conditions like hyperglycemia.

Emotional Eating

This happens for various reasons like when you are sad, lonely, bored, angry and stressed out. Due to this we start eating emotionally or we suppress the negative emotions and the cortisol levels increase because of these feelings which lead to more of nervous energy in the body. As a result you might feel hungry and you might tempt to eat more foods like junk foods or snacks due to which you will gain more weight.

Metabolism

Metabolism is the reason which makes you gain weight when you are stressed. This is because of the excess cortisol level which slows your metabolism. Due to this, even if you are eating same amount of food, your body will tend to gain weight.

Not Enough Sleep

Not getting enough sleep due to stress is the main reason for increase in belly fat. People who do not sleep for 7 to 9 hours each night tend to increase weight. So stress is one of the causes for belly fat.

Stress due to belly fat is one of the major factors to put on body weight. Taking short breaks is essential to manage your stress. Take 5 to 10 minutes walk in fresh air or try some yoga which can lower your stress level. Meditation is the other way to reduce stress and keep you cool.
