Diet After Delivery

Diet After Delivery

Motherhood is the most amazing and cherished feeling for almost every woman of the world. The joy which comes to a mother from the shrilly cries of a new born baby is beyond any comparison. The baby also has an innate esoteric relationship with the mother and is dependent on her for most of his activities for the next few months. For this the mother has to be not only attentive towards the baby but also towards her own self for being able to look after the baby well. In keeping the mother and baby healthy, a large role is played by the diet which the mother incorporates in the daily routine.

Post delivery of the child, the child will remain dependent on mother for food. Hence the diet for the mother has to be carefully decided and planned. Some points to remember while you are in this important stage of parenting include:

  1. A nursing mother has to take care of the needs of the new born as well so the diet should be rich in iron, fats, carbohydrates, minerals and vitamins.
  2. The breakfast must include calcium rich foods such as milk or banana. It should also have foods rich with anti-oxidants as whole wheat bread and nuts.
  3. Meals should be at regular intervals.
  4. A high protein and fat containing snack in the afternoon can be given. This may include a glass of fresh juice.
  5. Lunch should be protein and fibre rich. Green salad and some cereals may be good.
  6. A fresh sandwich can be filling the evening snack.
  7. Dinner must be light and less fatty, as this fat will be just stored in the mother's body and can make her plump.
  8. Mother should not hesitate to eat whenever she feels hungry.
  9. A high protein and high fibre diet should be looked up to. It will take care of the needs of the baby well and also will prevent the mother from collecting unnecessary fats in her body.

With these tips in mind, the planning of the diet after the delivery should be a lot easier for you to decide. However, seeing a dietician is never a bad idea for getting a personalised dietary plan made for the mother. Each mother is different and every body reacts differently. It is important to feel healthy and happy during the post delivery period. And diet is surely a key role player towards it. So, always plan the diet carefully and intelligently.
